For example:
Rashid Kakozza age 19 100m/200m sprints - This athlete was talent identified for the academy three years ago age 16 running 25 secs for 200m without any specialised coaching in school. He is coached by Tony Jarrett and Julian Golding. At the start of his 2010 season he competed in the European athletics trials in Birmingham clocking 22.07. At the end of the 2010 season he went on to run a credible 21.47 which now ranks him 9th on the GB list in his last year as junior men. Rashid has great potential in the sport and shows great promise in this event for 2012 and beyond.
Victoria Ohurougo age 17 400 metres - This young girl since joining the academy age 14 has gone from strength to strength she started as a 200m sprinter and in 2009 ran her first 400m with a time of 59 ses. In 2010 she ran 51.47 knocking 5 seconds off her previous time and was then selected to represent a small GB junior squad to compete in the first IOC World youth Olympics in Singapore. Vicky has the potential to represent Team GB in the London 2012 Olympic Games if she stays injury free.
Jahmal Germaine age 18 - Decathlon this youngster came straight out of the Army and talent identified for the academy as a sprinter having never attempted the decathlon. He has been with the academy 6 months and has been training to be a decathlete for the past two months. Already the academy coach has sighted him as been one of the best potentials at this event and a great legacy for the sport.
Jermaine Macintosh age 19 and Theo Spalding age 21 - These two members are cousins since talent identified for the academy three years ago they both have made great progress. Both are now training at the GB High performance centre in Dartford as part of the potential GB Squad. In September 2010 Jermaine was voted "Young Player of the Year" by the BJA.
Shawn Sewell - This athlete is so dedicated that Paralympics sport has now become his life. He was talent identified from the sport of disabled rowing three years ago since taking up the sport he was sighted as a potential paralympian by the GB performance director to train with the Paralympian squad. Unfortunately his disability set him back and was out of action again for one year. Shawn is now back in full training and his sights is set on competing in his first Olympics in London 2012 providing he can make the qualifying standard required and he is showing great potential in doing so.
Other members who are making tremendous improvement in the sport of athletics come from our triple jumpers both men and women. Also other sports performances in the academy are being nurtured and will be a great legacy for 2016. All members and performances can be forwarded on request.
In its first year the TSFA has 35 potentially talented members some disabled mainly identified from Olympic sports under its organisation the largest coming from track and field athletics.
Expansion with other sports and looking at mass participation of youngsters been active or taking up a sport will be in operation at the start of the school term in the winter of 2010.
