What We Do

Research shows that eighty percent of London youth participated in organised sports last year, yet there are 600,000 children and young people living in poverty in London. Currently there are 755,600 children and teenagers in the London area between the ages of 11 to 19. In contrast to the city area, the Greater London areas have a full array of youth sports without strong financial support.

More importantly, only 20% of girls in that age group are involved in sports. The current age break down provides The Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy with an excellent opportunity to impact half of our target group at the youngest ages. This will have a tremendous impact on the success of the program over the years.

This late start for urban children, especially urban girls, in organised sports robs them of the opportunity for physical activity, coaching, being part of a team, learning skills, and substantial time away from "negative recreation" (drugs, violence or sexual activities).

The Tessa foundation and Academy recognises that children must have the opportunity for a successful start in education and sport regardless of age, race, gender, family composition, income or community.

In response to this significant disparity, The Tessa Sanderson Foundation and Academy was created to provide a tailored sports program necessary for London and nationwide children to gain access to equal opportunity for organised sports. In order to help the social and health issues and to identify youngsters for TSFA with an aptitude for sport there is a talent identification process that takes place in 3 main stages.
